Page County trio awarded 4-H scholarships
Greg King, son of Mark and Barb King, of rural Villisca; Amy Nelson, daughter of Deb Nelson, Clarinda, and Clair Nelson, of rural Clarinda; and Shadoe Steeve, son of David and Beth Steeve, of rural Clarinda, and Joni Steeve of Clarinda, won $500 scholarships, awarded by the Page County 4-H Endowment Fund.Greg is a nine-year member of the Valley Boosters 4-H Club, Amy is a nine-year member of the Clarinda Classics 4-H Club, and Shadoe is a nine-year member of the Pleasant Ridge 4-H Club.Greg has held many leadership positions in his club, including president, and been a member of the Page County Council. His favorite project areas are Photography, Food and Nutrition, and Sheep. He has received awards at the county fair in his favorite project areas and others. Part of Greg’s community service was helping restore the Rialto Theater in Villisca.Greg will be attending Iowa State University in Ames where he will major in kinesiology and physical therapy.Amy was also a member of the Page County Council, a Junior Superintendent at the County Fair, and team leader for the Clarinda Classics 4-H Club. Her favorite project areas are Photography, Child Development, and Food and Nutrition. Amy has received recognition for her projects at the local and county levels. Her community service activities included helping at Faith, Food, and Fellowship and the Relay for Life.Amy will be attending Waldorf College in Forest City and will major in physical education while acquiring a coaching endorsement.Shadoe served as president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary for the Pleasant Ridge 4-H Club. His favorite project areas are Market Beef, Photography, and Woodworking. Shadoe showed class champions in Market Beef for several years. Part of his community service activities were improving the Page County fairgrounds and helping with the Pedal Pull.Shadoe will be attending Iowa Central at Fort Dodge and will major in agriculture. He plans to transfer to Northwest Missouri State and further his education in agriculture.
